Montreal, Quebec, Canada, November 17, 2015 – Fednav Limited was presented last night with the coveted IBJ award for Bulk Ship Operator of the Year, at a gala dinner organized by the International Bulk Journal and held at the Hilton Antwerp Old Town Hotel. It was the third time Fednav received this distinction since the inaugural IBJ Awards in 2009.
The award spotlights Fednav’s excellence in maritime trade, along with its leadership in the implementation of the highest industry operating standards such as safety, efficiency, and environmental protection.
The company operates a modern fleet of about 85 bulk carriers that trade worldwide, of which 49 are owned. Fednav took delivery of 9 new Japanese-built vessels in 2015, and has 19 ships on order, 12 of which will be owned. All of these new vessels will receive the CLEAN notation from DNV GL, meet MARPOL’s new Energy Efficiency Design Index, and be equipped with ballast water treatment systems effective in both fresh and salt water.
Fednav’s high standards are reflected in its fleet’s Rightship ratings. Out of roughly 18,000 bulk carriers in service, only 37 vessels currently have a 5-star rating on both the risk and environmental side—7 of these vessels are owned by Fednav. One of them, the MV Federal Tyne, has a perfect GHG emissions score of A+—one of only four bulk carriers worldwide with this distinction.
Fednav management is grateful to the International Bulk Journal for hosting this event and thanks the ship managers, customers, and suppliers for their contribution and support.
Fednav is privately owned and is the largest international dry-bulk shipping group in Canada, and strives to deliver a higher standard. The company employs 280 office staff worldwide—150 in its Montreal headquarters—and maintains commercial offices overseas in Antwerp, Charlotte, London, Hamburg, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore, and Tokyo.
